How MSE started

I grew up in a family of two different cultures with two different languages. Like many bilingual children, I understood from a very early age how important language is to your sense of self and your relationships with others. It does more than shape—it defines. Words have always mattered a great deal to me. I still have the first chapter book I ever read. It was given to me by my Grandmother, and the act of reading it changed me forever.

As a child, I was never happier than when I was swimming in a lake or the ocean. I have always preferred to be outside, and I love learning about nature. Throughout school, I was never sure if I wanted to be a writer or an ecologist, and although I love literature, the ocean won out in the end, and I got my PhD in marine ecology.

Before beginning my postgraduate studies, I worked as an English language expert for a Mexican conservation NGO. This role carried through to my postgraduate studies as I gave English classes and helped my peers and professors by editing their papers. After graduating, I formally merged my expertise in language and science and launched my own scientific editing services. Through my work with clients in multiple countries in Latin America and Asia, I have come to understand what it takes to write a great paper.
